There are some stories that you only have second hand knowledge of but you hear them so much it feels like you were there.
One such story is Mr. Dowd stomping Jay Pizzarielo's leg when it was on fire. Now my version of the story was they were inches away from a waterfront but they were a few feet away in reality. Basically Jay had a jar of rubber cement to squeeze into the fire. He stepped on it and a stream of rubber cement went into the fire. And then it shot back into the bottle. He panicked and it squirted onto his pant leg. No doubt some zubaz pants. And caught fire. Mr.Dowd saw this and knocked Jay down and started stomping his leg. Yes Jay was sort of a class clown. But he was a good guy, still is, and we needed his legs intact.
